Anyone notice how Blogger butchered the post below? The picture is outside of the bounding box. Guess those well-paid google employees need to get off their rears and fix that. Anyway, Here's me in the Alameda Parade. There was 10,000+ people there. 4 miles long. The best part is that I got to 'drive' the mower all the way back home. Imagine that- 45 MPH on a mower on the road. I sure got some funny looks.

This was our first full-fledged race. We had roughly 12 mowers and 15 people racing. There were a number off wrecks, but all in all, nobody got hurt. But most of us are sore. Quite a few people showed up too. Who knew people would come out to watch racing mowers? We also have an 'official' site.

I stumbled on these guys a while back. I love their style and design. It has a pretty original look to it as well. if some of you have seen " Stranger than Fiction", they were the ones that did all the graphics throughout the movie. The other thing I liked was that they're not out of the usual places. They're in Kansas City, MO. Anyhow, check em out. They're working on a movie called The History Of America, and it looks freakin' awesome.

New "mobi" site

I've been fartin' around with .mobi sites for awhile and figured it was time to make a companion site for nomadtoons. The site itself is built, but I'm still working out the bugs with how to format the site universally. There's some phone browser compatibility issues with this too. Basically, phones are where computers were 10 years ago. So what you can ( for now) is limited. But I'm making nomadtoons.mobi pretty heavy anyway because I feel that .mobi sites will become more common soon.

If all works out and old fafer's ever get back into the faf idea, a fafcom.mobi site would be pretty interesting. later Jules.

Seems like everyone was all crazy about this comic idea and then... no mention off it at all. Admittedly, I don't have a huge amount of personal investment in it, but I was rather curious about what other people were doing. Does anyone have their project to show? By the way, I made a separate blog for lawn mower racing, so no more boring lawn mower crap. Anyway, carry on.

As witnessed by the deletion of the prior post regarding racing mowers, I can see that the topic must be annoying. But regardless, the machine, or 'mowchine' is now completed. The first race will be in Potter Valley, CA on April 7th. Therafter, there are numbers of planned events in the state and even a slight chance of a participation in an event in Vegas. So, without further ado, here's the mower.

At a glance:

Engine: 16 Horsepower opposed head Briggs & Stratton
Transmission: 5 speed Foote transaxle
Brakes: Mechanically actuated disk brakes
Steering: Solid direct with 35 degree max lock to lock
Gearing ratio: 8:1
Approximate speed: 45 MPH, but yet to be confirmed prior to field testing

Mower lawnmower racing crap...

So my racing lawn mower has been coming along pretty well so far. I have a month left to build before the first race. I also need to get in some testing time to make sure it doesn't blow up on the track. These racing mowers are essentially built like a crude car. They must have custom-built brake, steering, and powertrain systems. The biggest problem I've run into is that the majority of my fellow racers were born with welding torches and wrenches in their hands. So I've had to do a lot of catching up just to get mine running.

The build to date includes a brake system, hubs, wheels, a modified transmission, a modified front steering axle, and a set of rack and pinion parts , steering axle, wheel, and so on. half of the steering has yet to be installed.

We also have to race with the decks on, which is a challenge because I only have a small truck and will need to make the deck removable. Below are progress pics.

I feel a little sheepish mentioning these guys since it would seem to be an outright promotion of my home city, but I heard these guys live on the Blue Plate special ( wdvx.com) one day and honestly, they sounded amazing. They are called Brent Thompson and his wandering circus.
The lead singer I believe is from Knoxville, lived in San Fran for awhile, then moved back to Knoxville, got a huge group of knoxville musicians together, and play shows all over the place... dressed as clowns. Something like 15 people in the band? So the sound is amazing. What I really liked is that their sound is amazingly complex and rich. Lots and lots of thoughtful layering and just great music all around. Unfortunately, they are not published ( yet) and I believe have a CD coming out. Anyhow, they do have a myspace page. Check em' out when you have a spare minute.

Latest build updates: racin' Mowchine.

I spent all weekend working on my racing mower. So far, our club has almost gotten permission from a track in Santa Rosa to have a monthly race schedule. This will begin in April, which means I now have a month and a half to finish the machine.

The last 2 weekends was spent welding reinforcements to the mower frame. The challenge was that I had never welded before. Thanks to all the gift cards we got when we got married to Home Depot, I was able to buy a welder known as a "wire welder", which does what it's name implies: welds with a spool of wire fed out of a trigger activated handheld device. It was sort of scary and a lot more difficult to get the hang of, but now that I can do it, sticking pieces of metal together is actually amazingly satisfying. Feels like you're building something monumental and preferment- even if it is something stupid like a racing mower.

The following pics shows the last 2 weeks of progress. On order and on the way are: Disc brakes, rotors, an axle, spindles, 2 hubs, wheels, tires, and a steering wheel. The top speed is projected to be around 55MPH with a opposed head 18 HP engine and stock mower transmission. Updates to come as progress is made.

I recently received an email from a group that are forming a new film festival in Portland Oregon called the Platform international Film Festival. The event which is being sponsored by Cartoon Network is being held in the spring. I was asked to submit a number of flashlite cellphone cartoons because they recognize the significance of newer media types, particularly mobile content.There aren't many of us doing this type of animtion, so it will be interesting to see what happens. I will be sending in a few cartoons, possibly including a series I am currently making for another company. Their hope is to have the films actually play on real phones. The details have yet to be worked out.
If you want to send in regular films, they are accepting most formats. Due date is March 1st.

First California chapter of mower racing a sucess!

The first ever meeting of the California Mower racing league was a qualified success. All told, roughly 8 people showed and one guy even had a mower that was race-ready. We all had hamburgers, lots of beer, and got to drive around a dirt track on the lawn mower ( which has a top speed of 50MPH) and all various forms of Go-carts, scooters, etc etc. We are now all involved in our own builds, installing brakes, steering, engine mods, and frame reinforcements. When complete, the mowers should look like something below.

We now have an event lined up this summer at one of the local fair. Stay tuned...

So... the latest FAF escapades have began. I like Diangelo's idea about "pig man". After having a number of Polish beers from Bevmo, I got enough courage to draw this diddy in MS paint- a glorious program. I drew it left-handed as well, which is quite a challenge. Here's the fruits of my labor.

So I took a peek at ye ole' fafcom web site. According to the movie section, it is locked until the end of the fafshow 2004... 3 years ago.
This site is a dinosaur. It doesn't represent what we do anymore. More of a melancholic memory. So... I guess I'd like to know what are we going to eventually do with it. A: Let it it there and rot as-is, a lock on the movies and all... B: Remove the lock and let people watch old-school faf cartoons again C: update the old design, or D: make it into something else, like a sort of loose portal where we can put things up that we do, regardless of what it is. Cartoons... comics... Nintendo... Lawn mowers... etc.
By the straightforward reality that we're so busy that even basic communication between us is becoming a rarity, I doubt we could actually create another site. Besides, if we did, it'd probably sit there for 5 years with nothing being done to it just the last 4 versions.
My only reason for wanting to do something would be for everyone to be able to show the fruits of their labors. We're all doing very different things these days, following different career paths and starting to make major plans for the future. It would be nice to see what everyone is up to. I guess this blog was supposed to be that. Perhaps a site would be more compelling.
Just seems like a shame to let the site just sit.

Mower racing.

So I've decided to get into a sport that makes sense for me... Lawn Mower racing. All you do is get old riding mowers, take the original wide pulley on the transmission, the small one from the engine and swap them out. The result is more speed. Some of these riding mowers will go 65MPH+. Mine might go 30-35, which is fast enough. The sport started in the UK and naturally popped up in the US in da' South. I'm part of a group of guys that is starting a chapter in California. So... stay tuned! here's my build so far.

Well...
I'm now a married man! Beat some of you fellahs to the punch didn't I? Anyhow, we had a wonderful time. The weather was really Awesome, the people were great, and I almost wrecked a golf cart after having one too many. We flew into Nashville ( which if some of you guys haven't been to or visited in a long time is a city that I highly reccomend) and saw the country music hall of fame. We then drove to Knoxville and had the wedding at a resort that my dad works at. A buddy of mine from L.A. took the pictures and did a fantastic job. Then we drove with Lindy's parents to Valley Forge PA, which is also a really great area full of history, beauty, and lots of things to do. We stayed there a week and are now back in SF. I have to say that we are relieved all the planning and stuff is over, but we did have a good time. Anyhow, here is a link to lots of pictures:

Hey ya'll,
I finally got the new animated phone cartoon completed.It has 3 one minute long episodes along with some ringtones, basic graphics, and a xml generated news section. Pretty basic stuff, but it works. There were a lot of bugs pertaining to getting the controls to work reliably with the phone's key configurations, but it works now. It is now ready to be downloaded from my site. I made a new flashlite section so you can see what other interesting prototypes I'm working on.You can download it here.
Make sure and scroll down to the 2nd flashlite example- the one with cartoon characters in it. You can play it on your desktop one piece at a time or if you happen to have a newer Symbian OS phone, then you can drag the entire folder into your phone's memory. You will also need the flashlite 2.0 plugin for your phone. The current phones in the US market that will play FL 2.0 are Mostly N series Nokia phones, as in N70, N90, and the following Symbian equipped models: 3230,6260,6620,6630,6670,6670,6680,6681,3382,7610. If you don't have one of these phones... then you cannot play it on your phone. Again, this technology is less than 6 months old, so unfortunatly there aren't many phones that will play it... yet. So for now, perhaps some of you will see the amazing potential this new medium has for animators. I plan on making a number of test pilots for cellphone users.

What?! Two posts in a week? What the hell? Actually, I'm inbetween starting a new job, so I have extra time to waste. Anyhow, I've been going to this awesome site for months now. It is the opitomy of perfection when it comes to wasting time. I even made a few things for it. The site is called ytmnd.com which stands for: "Your the man now dog!"- a quote that may seem obvious to some of you Sean Connery fans. The movie it came from is "The Rock". The site started as this spoof of that phrase and originally just had a stupid placeholder image of Sean Connrey pointing a finger with audio in the background; " your the man now dog!" over and over. A lot of people liked it so much that others started making equally stupid pointless sites with animated, not to mention tiled background sites with sound bytes and all. So many people made these in fact that ytmnd got turned into a portal where people can submit their own sites.
Over the years, there have been dozens of really random themes that get reused over and over again. To the unititiated, there is no reasoning behind any of it, so it looks totally ridiculous. But if you do some searches for specific themes, you'll see what I mean.

Try these when you go: lol, chunk is indestructable, N64 kids, N*gga stole my bike, clubbin' baby seals, and lastly- NEDM.

That last one needs explanation. Basically, NEDM stands for:" Not Even Doom Music would make this funny. It spawned from this rather disturbing video some kids burning a cat. Someone posted " Not even doom music would make this funny" and thus the term: NEDM was born.

Anyhow, most of you are probably working away like good little animators, but if you happen to read this, I highly reccomend it.

Flashlite stuff

No.. not flashlights... flashlite. Looks like my fellow fafers come here once a year now, so perhaps next year they'll see this post. For the rest of you who come here, well I have something kind of fun I've been working on. Flashlite cellphone applications. Why is this so cool? because flashlite is a version of the desktop version of flash that enables animators, designers, and UI builders to create custom games, movies, applications, and interfaces for cellphones. This means that if you can animate in flash, you can animate for cellphones.
The biggest diffrence of course is that the file sizes are restricted due to the current lineup of phones that play flashlite, which at this writing are very few in the US, but quite common on Asia and Europe. The animation must also be somewhat simplified. No long motion tweens or cross fades. Just simple animation. That said, the latest version, flashlite 2.0 is amazing. You can now load videos, music, xml text, images, and web sites remotely or from a folder structure... just like conventional flash will. Flashlite also works with the hotkeys and numeric keypad on your phone. You will also need to get very familiar with structural loading limitiations in the phone's memory. At this time, phones do not have what is known as an automatic " garbage dump", or what is known in javascript as a method to unload data from device memory. Flashlite will do this automatically, but you should still keep the files smaller and hence not crash the phone, which is easy as hell to do the first couple of times you make something.
So far, I've created a number of prototypes that will play cartoons in small epirodes of about a minute each, fully animated,with sound and somewhat detailed backgrounds. These episodes load into a main menu similiar to what you might see on a DVD UI. I've also made a few apps that have updated remote text, images, and simple chat applications. I'm not a programmer, so as you can see, the technology is very accesible.
What does this mean? well... put it this way: there are going to be literally several BILLION handheld wireless devices in the next decade compared to the several hundred million desktop computers, and equivelant number TV sets. This means that developing entertainment for cellphones,though still in very early stages, has the real potential to become far more reaching than any other media source.
If you haven't jumped into mobile content development yet and know how to use flash, then I'd suggest learning the stuff, and learn it NOW! the demand for this will be enormous in around a year or 2.

The House of Cosbys created by Justin Roiland, is A cautionary tale about cloning Bill Cosby. It's multiplicity meets the cosby show, and it's hilariously weird. Sadly, mr. Cosby doesn't have much of a sense of humor, and a cease and decist order from his lawyers forced them to pull the show off their own site, but many mirrors have popped up, and all 5 episodes are currently available on google video.

me and my company sort of toyed around with the idea of doing some techy Podcasts. I played around with the equipment and various programs and made my own to see how hard it was to do.. so I made one. Actually a number of them, which are all named diffrently and nonsensical. I'll just name one of them since the rest are so horrible it's really not listening to. So the one I made is called the ahole podast. Just look it up on podcasts and there it is. I made a few about economics and lo and behold, tons of people listen to them as weird as that may sound. I ain't listing those. Anyhow, there you go. Merry Xmas. My silly gift to you all.

new flash 8 stuff.

I started playing around with flash 8 and did some cheesy stuff on some pieces I was working on. Man, I love it! The best part is that it really speeds things up. I am used to making shadows the old fashioned way, using layers, and shape cutouts. You can do so many nifty things. On the xmas lights here, I used a combination inner glow, shadow, drop shadow, and inner shadow to make the lights look more dimensional. This was one of my 1st proojects in it, so it might look tad crude, but you get the idea. It also really helps the edge quality of images too. I'm used to having to cut out the ragged edges of imported jpegs and so forth. This is an issue for me because the file sizes have to be tiny, thus I dont have the luxory of using other formats that would look cleaner. Great version so far.

Both feature a variety public domain radio plays, each in it's respective genre. We'd scoured the internet for these in the past, but it's nice to have them hand plucked and delivered straight to our itunes libraries every week.

An idea to make yourself look more important

I just had this great idea for those of us who feel that they are blending in too much with the day to day crowd. They say that clothes makes the man( or woman) but these days, it seems that more needs to be done within the fashion world to do the work for us. SO My new idea is called the "handcuffed briefcase" look. It's easy. Just get yourself a nice briefcase. A used one will do just fine. You could probably get a fake alligator one at a flea market for under 20 bucks. Next go to one of those joke/party stores and get a pair of handcuffs. The real metal kind so they know you mean business. Then simply attach yourself to the briefcase and walk around. Everyone will assume that you're absolutly loaded and have a briefcase full of cash. For an even greater effect, have a couple of lackies follow you around in business suits and sunglasses. For added irony, make sure you wear jams and a hawian shirt. That way the effect will be even better. Not only will you be so rich that you have to attach yourself to your briefcase, but you totally dont give 2 shits about what you look like anyhow. Sort of like saying" fuck off- I'm rich!" and if they ask to see the inside of your briefcase, pick up your cellphone and pretend to call your ole' pal- bulletfaced hancock to take care of some" problems".They'kk run screaming I guarantee. Anyhow, I had this brain fart of an idea, and I just had to get it off my chest. good ole' blogs..

Oh what the hell.. I got engaged. Yup. Me and Lindy have been together for 3 years now. She knows what kind of pickles I like, and what we call my grandmother. So she asked me if we aught to get hitched.
Anyhow, we haven't set a date. We're just enagaged, which is like girlfriend/boyfriend on turbo setting. Been a month so far, and I still find it hard to say "fiance'" but I thought I might as well spill the beans now so you all wouldnt get surprised.

So it is not just a myth. The latest version of flash is slated to drop soon and this is where you can see some interesting demos. It seems that our boys in the bay (adobe and macromedia) are adding a lot more bitmap options not to mention a few "jazz bullet jazz" drop shadows and blurs. Oh yeah it should playback ok on a mac now as well.

there really is a genuine pirate store right in downtown SF. Why? because a writer wanted to have a writer's workshop and school. The city of SF said no because he wasnt zoned to have a school there. Dear PETA picture person,
Please stop posting pictures of various farm animals being killed (or "murdered" as you would say) because they are making me gain weight. How is this possible you ask? Your pictures don’t disturb me, they don’t even evoke the slightest feelings of disgust or even mild nausea. This may come as a surprise to you, because I assume you are posting these pictures in an attempt to shock others, as the pictures (as well as meat-eaters) are shocking and offensive to you. However, to me these pictures are nothing, they stir no aspect of my soul. You see I have worked for many years in the food service industry. In almost every imaginable facet of the industry: prep, clean-up, service, delivery, ordering, management, etc. And I have done every menial and degrading job that the industry required. This includes, but is not limited to, ripping the neck/ass fat out of thousands of semi-frozen chickens (also chopping of excess neck bone and remaining feathers) in preparation for roasting. I have removed fat,bone,arteries from hundreds of pounds of raw, blood oozing beef (separated rib cages, snapped joints, sawed bone) in various tasks of preparation, I have gutted and filleted hundreds of fresh, frozen, and live fish (ripping out their lower jaw is especially fun because the guts and stuff comes with it). And during all these years I have developed a great callousness towards the visual experience of flesh mutilation. In fact, the years of repetition has classically conditioned me associate flesh mutilation with eating, because after I do these tasks I cook then I eat.
This is where the problem arises. I no longer work in the food service industry, I have graduated and now am one of the many drones who blankly stair at a computer screen as required by my position in some nameless multi-national corporation. So to pass time (like everyone here) I didle with r&r. And for the last couple of days you and your friends have been posting your "pet" pictures under unassuming titles. This is a great problem for me because I click on any link with a picture in the hopes of seeing beautiful boobies, a nice round booty, a kitty holding a gun, G.W. looking like an idiot, or even Eric Estrada calling me a homo. But when I click your links I see dead animals and it makes me hungry (you cant fight classical conditioning, its science). In the past couple of days I have eaten more than I can remember. Yesterday for breakfast I skipped the usual bowl of cereal because I had an insatiable craving for bacon, eggs, cheese, and more bacon. For Lunch I gave my falafel (which I love) away to a homeless guy just because I needed a gigantic cheese burger and when I went to Carls Jr. and got a double western six dollar burger, I cried because I was scared there wasn’t enough beef on my bun. Last night I tried to tone it down on the meat (I usually eat very healthy) and ordered my favorite dish from "my" Vietnamese place, vegetarian Pho. But when the steaming bowl of noodles came before me I became enraged and sent it back, demanding it be filled with as much raw beef as possible. When it returned I was in such frenzy I ate all the raw beef with my hands (right out of the scolding hot soup)!!! I cannot keep eating like this. I am a fit guy and I can already feel myself gaining weight. So I am pleading please stop with the pictures, my heart and arteries cannot take much more of this.
To make matters worse, I have a special engagement next weekend and if I keep gaining weight I will not be able to fit into what I want to wear. You see, I have this totally kick-ass pair of LEATHER pants and they fit just perfect (they show of my meaty ass). Plus I just bought these amazing alligator skin boots and matching snake skin shirt. If I can’t wear my alligator boots/leather pants/snake skin shirt outfit to Bubba's ALL MEAT BBQ EXTRAVAGANZA!!! next weekend, I think I'm gonna cry myself to sleep on my baby otter skin blanket and duck feather comforter.

Holtler & I, girlfriends in tow, saw MINDGAME on sunday as part of the New York Asian Film Festival 2005. Not only was the introduction to the film by the festival staff delightfully enthusiastic, the film was awesome too. Giddy like a school girl I was after its 104 minutes of animated delight. We all really enjoyed it, even JoHo, who in spite of his slugish hangover still managed to mumble "was good" in approval. I could go on and on about it, but Ben Ettinger over at ANIPAGES DAILY already did it for me.
In conclusion, wether you have to buy the DVD, catch it at a special screening, or download it on the internet, don't miss MINDGAME.

I dreamed that I had come up with a clever plan to interview Robin Williams for a fake TV show. The plan was that I would drive to his famous hospital for homeless children.Don't know where I got the idea that he owned a hospital, but anyhow, I drove up and a guard asked me what I wanted. I told him that I thought Robin Williams was doing an awfully good job taking care of all those poor homeless kids and I was part of a film crew who would like to ask him some questions about how he runs it. He amazingly agreed and let me in. Anyhow, Williams drives up in a rusty old pickup truck,Just like the one my grandad used to own. He was in a foul mood too.I started some stupid conversation about the hospital, which I knew nothing about. I also tried to crack a few jokes but realized that I sucked at telling them and he was obviously not amused. He told me about how he had gotten started on Mork and Mindy, and how that before that there was this 1960's reality show( way ahead of it's time) that took 12 comedians and pitted them against each other. It sounded like a miserable experience, with most of the comedians being really nasty, mean people who were only funny in a fake way on stage. I asked him if the hospital was open for visitors. Yup, he said, and he took me in and showed me around. Everything was painted with silver roof paint, so I was almost blinded, which he thought was sort of funny. I started to feel like ole' Robin was really a prick. So I decided to make some rude comments, like telling him that that Robots movie was stupid and that he acted like a crack addict on TV, and that how "good mornin' Vietnam was really just him getting over his cocaine addiction or something like that. He thought that was really funny, and the more insults I made, the more he laughed. It made me pissed and I ran away but I couldn't find an exit. All I could hear was his mananical laughter. I wonder what I was thinking about before I went to sleep.

Play flash films... backwards!

I have been looking for a script for a few days that will play your flash films backwards. This means literally making the playhead go backwards in the swf, or quicktime, whatever you export as. I had a project where I needed this and it had to be a very low file size, thus adding new animation wasnt an option. I figured since most of us here use flash, one of you all might find it handy, so here's the code. If you want the fla, email me.

So.. here's what you do: the below script is applied to your first frame or to a button in this case. You would change the (rollout) action to whatever action you wanted.ie: rollover,onclick,etc.
the "movie" word is the name of your movie clip to be played backwards, so if you wanted to name it something else, you'd need to make sure that your clip was named the same in the properties menu.

on (rollOut) {
movie.reverse = false;
movie.play();
}
on (rollOver) {
tint.reverse = true;
}
on (rollover) {
_parent.play();

Now for the 2nd part...
All you do now is atatch this to the aforementioned movie clip. then the code knows which movie clip to perform the function to.You can adjust how many frames forward and backwards the movie will play by typing it within the () brackets after "play".

New job is going good. I like it so much I have lost 4 pounds because I forget to eat lunch. I have a swanky cubicle. I know most people hate em, but I like them quiet a bit. I'm going to a golf cart race competition this weekend in Petaluma, along with an old car show, which also features free beer to all who take part, thus entertainment will be assured.Some of these old golf carts can really fly. They sell cell phones and techy equipment, so if you see whacky looking ads that have to do with phones, it might be my stuff. pretty nice people there. Well, howdy ya'll. I figured since I have all this luxurious time on my hands, I'd spout and banter on about my exsistence over the last few months. It has been rather crazy. I quit Reply, joined a company that cloned pets and made rather ludicrous web sites about the "backwards south" and the supposevly positive and hence morally correct counter culture that exsists in the rest of the metropolitan world. They didnt know what they were doing, and as a result, a lot of us got laid off. It's been pretty sweet for the last month or so. I got a swell severence package and unemployment. I actually took a trip with my girlfriend to Death valley and las Vegas. Screw Vegas. I could fill up reams about Death Valley. It's probably the most amazing place I've ever been to. Absolutely stunning with enormous sand dunes and weird formations of salt. We camped in the back of my truck and were glad we did so. At night the wind kicked up to close to 60MPH and tore tents from their stakes and rocked my truck back and forth. We went off roading to a bunch of abandoned towns, many 20-30 miles away on desolate dirt and sand roads. We got stuck a few times, but made it out ok. If you havent been, go!
I am securing work from one of three companies. One is an education firm out or Ireland, and they need some prototypes of characters and so forth. Another is a cell phone reseller that wants online advertisement in the exact same places I used to place ads on yahoo and MSn, so it'd be a good fit, and still another would make me a traveling agent to do projects for companies across the west coast. Not sure If Im crazy about that.
I moved a few months back into a real house with a yard, garden work shop, and carpet. I got tired of the shitty apartment style of living where there's 20 coats of cheap paint on everything. I now live in Alameda right on the water, where surprisingly it is very easy to get to any of the surrounding cities, is cheaper, and in my humble opinion, better than putting up with the dirt and confusion of SF. Even the food is great here. I founf a german Resturaunt that sells this beer called Weltenburger Pils Dunkel, which just means "dark". It's a sort of amber, molasses thick kind of beer that makes you wish you have a gallon of it. It also makes you drunk like silly, so you have to be prepared to be there for hours and hours. They have Polka and German music too, thus I can see how Polka is instrumnetal in helping beer drinkers spend more money. what sounds like crappy music in the begining sounds better and better as you drink more. everyone else gets happy too, and lo and behold, a singing bar full of happy people and clinking beer steins. I also discovered a place called Tucker's Ice Cream, another weird Alameda joint with a fireplace, Prusian style furniture, and Ice Cream that's astoundingly good.
Lets see... I joined a car club along with my housemate who bought a 63' Chevy Corvair, the kind of car Nader wrote Unsafe at any speed about. It's pretty unsafe in general by dying in the middle of the freeway unexpectedly. When he picked it up, it died in the webster Tube and I was driving his shitty Ford Taurus. I actually pushed him the rest of the way home. I'd never done it before and I accidentally ruined the bumper in the process.We go out on the abandoned Naval base here and there's about 1000 people. The most infamous is the Billet-Proof gang. They're sort of snotty and have that whole " Jessee james" BBQ paint look going on for their cars, plus their girlfriends all mock themselves up in Betty paige look-a-like styling. I coul care less. I've been doing a lot of reading in my hiatus from work. One is called China Inc. I'd highly reccomend it. It opened my eyes as to what the very near future may look like. In essence, China will eclipse the US in every aspect in about 5-10 years and therfore have the prestige of being the top super power. The scary part is that they are already at a position that makes the US economy start to look less than sterling, and they're using mostly unskilled farmers working in sheds to do it! a good read.Musically, I still listen to old country, but in the last 2 years, Ive gotten into Americana and Alt-country, which isnt a genre yet, since it's never in music stores. I recently picked up the Hacienda Brothers and another band called Billy bacon and the forebidden pigs. Good stuff. The Gourds are probably still my favorite. I listen to 2 online stations, one in CA and one in TN. they are kpig.com and wdvx.com. They constitue in my opinion what radio aught to be, which is good music and DJs who like it. They also give airplay to musicians who otherwise would be unheard of.

Anyhow, thats about it fer now. I reckon I had some serious catching up to do. see you fellers later!-S

This morning I was thinking to myself I really wish I could build an arcade machine for my tiny apartment. Then I was thinking I wonder how driving a motorcycle would effect my life expectancy and I wonder where I could find video of girls belly dancing to heavy metal.

Reginald (the Beef Hammer) Swanson and I tried to track down the American Astronaut two years ago, only to find out that it wasn't on DVD yet. I am happy to announce that the wait is over. Cory McAbee wrote, directed, produced and stared in this movie and if that weren't enough his band The Billy Nayer Show played all of the music. This is the Citizen Kane of space cowboy musicals; leave work now and go buy this DVD.
